Quick start
- Open Unspoken Room and leave the included Recommended: Qwen3 4B (Q4_K_M) model selected.
- Wait until the status says the local model, speech input, and voice output are warmed and ready.
- Select Start Conversation and allow microphone access if you want to speak.
- Pause naturally after your turn. You can also type in the Text Conversation area.
- Use Stop Conversation when you are finished.
If the app is still warming
First launch can take longer because Qwen, Parakeet, and Kokoro must load into memory. Keep the Mac awake and wait for the ready status. If a component reports a failure, quit the app, reopen it, and leave the included model selected. Restart the Mac if another large local-model app has left memory pressure behind.
If Unspoken Room does not hear you
- Open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone and allow Unspoken Room.
- Confirm the intended microphone is selected as the Mac’s input device.
- Stop other apps that are actively using or routing the microphone.
- Stop and restart the conversation after changing an audio device.
Typed conversation remains available if you do not grant microphone access.
If speech stops or sounds delayed
Stop the conversation, wait for playback to end, and begin again. Close other local-model, video, screen-sharing, or heavy background apps if the Mac is under sustained CPU, GPU, memory, or disk load. The included Qwen model is the performance baseline; larger optional models can respond more slowly and leave fewer resources for speech.
Using another GGUF model
Open Models… to search and download public GGUF files from Hugging Face into Unspoken Room’s own model library. Advanced users can choose Import Local GGUF… and select a compatible GGUF from any folder or mounted drive. Imported files stay in place and are opened read-only.
Only GGUF models are supported. Compatibility and quality vary. If an optional model fails, return to Recommended: Qwen3 4B (Q4_K_M).
Clearing local information
Clear Transcript… removes visible conversation text and related local conversation artifacts. It intentionally does not erase the separate content-free diagnostic log. Use Conversation → Clear Diagnostic Telemetry… when you also want to remove that local troubleshooting history. See the privacy policy for details.
